The Dietitian's Barter: My Marathon Fundraising Scheme (Yes, Scheme)
Here's the thing about running 26.2 miles: it's a lot easier to ask people for money when you can offer them something in return. So that's what I'm doing.
My sister Anne and I are running the NYC Marathon this November for Fred's Team, raising money for cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering. We lost our grandmother - we called her Memere - to a fast-growing glioblastoma in 2012, before we could even get her into treatment there. This run is personal for us. My fundraising goal is $5,000, and I am a dietitian with services to trade.
Here's the deal:
Donate what you think is fair at http://mskcc.convio.net/goto/katefossman, and tell me what you want (you can email kate@thesignatureplate.com with your order). Here's the menu:
My favorite fiber foods list - The one I actually hand to my clients. Not a Google result. Not a ChatGPT hallucination. A real clinical tool from a real dietitian who thinks about fiber more than is probably normal.
A critical analysis of what generative AI is telling you about your health goals - ChatGPT is not a dietitian. Neither is Gemini. Neither is (ahem) the other one. I will personally review what the robots are telling you and let you know what's evidence-based, what's noise, and what's actively going to work against you. This one might be my favorite offering.
A custom snack list with recipes - Tailored to you, your goals, and what you actually like eating. Not sad desk snacks. Real food, real strategy.
Food journal analysis - Send me a few days of eating and I'll give you a real clinical read. No judgment, no calorie math, just pattern recognition from someone who does this for a living.
Access to the Metabolic Stability Coach - My app, built on evidence-based metabolic health principles. Try it at metabolicstabilitycoach.com.
Donate what feels right. Think of it as a pay-what-you-can farmers market, except instead of heirloom tomatoes, you get personalized nutrition guidance and the knowledge that your money is funding cancer research at one of the best institutions in the world. Honestly a better deal than the tomatoes.
